Despite cold temperatures on the final weekend, attendance at the Feb. 3-19 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, the 57th annual, rose 4.4% to 1,153,978, topping last year's figure of 1,105,321 and establishing records on five days, according to chief operating officer Debbie Dreyfus-Schronk.
The temperature was 87 degrees on the Thursday before the Midwest contingent, led by President Greg Stewart of the Central Washington Fair in Yakima and Secretary Mike Heffron, retired manager of the Minnesota State Fair, St. Paul, arrived. It was below freezing the final Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Wade had Pay-One-Price unlimited ride promotions Mondays through Thursdays for $20. Dollar Days were Feb. 10 and 17 when all rides, gate admission, popcorn, soda and a hot dog were $1. Other promotions included Military Days on Feb. 10 and 17 when those with military Ids were admitted for free; Rodeo Feast, which offered four rodeo tickets at the $15 level, four hot dogs, four bags of chips and four sodas for $66, an $84 value, for Monday through Thursday performances; College Nights, when students got in with valid Ids on Feb. 9, and 16, and the $20 Rodeo Combo, which included one $10 rodeo ticket, and unlimited carnival wristband, good Mondays, through Thursdays. They could be redeemed on the grounds.
