When working for the fair gets in the blood, the passion can be passed for generations.
That is what happened with Betty Nix and granddaughter Lisa Barr, who both work for the Four States Fair and Rodeo.
Since 1999, Barr has worked full time in her grandmother’s old role as administrative assistant. Nix works part time answering phones, something she started only six months after her retirement.
“I was left with, no, I inherited the job,” Barr said, smiling. “I sell vendor space, work with the exhibitors in the building and the livestock department and the parade and the Little Mr. And Miss (Four States Fair) and whatever else comes up,” Barr said.
