Ease holiday stress this weekend by gazing at the sea from a Ferris wheel, shopping for gifts at a crafts market or listening to free entertainment at the Pompano Beach Centennial Carnival at Pompano Beach Community Park. The Rotary Club, Pompano Beach and the Pompano Beach Centennial Celebration Committee are sponsoring tonight's kickoff bash that will launch the city's 100th anniversary celebrations. The carnival begins seven months of 37 parades, concerts, and other events leading to the July 3, 2008, anniversary of the city's incorporation date. About 150 volunteers have spent two years planning the celebrations to recognize the town's history.
