Link: State fairgrounds going green.
The New Jersey State Fair is adding a touch of green to the fairgrounds in Augusta. Fair administrators plan to construct an $800,000, environmentally friendly conservatory later this year. The new facility, to be located between the current green house and Farm Fun building will be made entirely of energy efficient glass to reduce the loss of heat, mahogany wood beams and aluminum. The eco-friendly building will be used for horticultural displays during the state fair and will house the annual Spring Fest and charity events during the off season. "The conservatory would greatly enhance Spring Fest and allow a place for other exhibits and displays," said Robert Silk, manager of the New Jersey State Fair Sussex County Farm and Horse Show. "With all three buildings tied together, this one will probably be one of our largest. It's a very exciting building and it will add a lot to our fairgrounds," said Silk. The building is being funded by a Bucks County, Pa., resident whom officials will identify at Spring Fest on March 6. They hope to break ground in mid-August, after the close of this year's fair. If all goes as planned, the 50-by-130 foot building will be available for Spring Fest 2009.
