For the first time in it's 67 year history organizers plan to hold the South Texas State Fair in the springtime. That's only a few weeks away and repairs must be made, vendors must be set in place. Our Brian Burns has been digging into how that's working out. Casey Ling,Jefferson County 4-H member says "I really like it because it'll be cooler and no hurricanes. Well there shouldn't be hurricanes anyway." Ling and other 4-H members say they are looking forward to the cooler qaurters at Ford Park for this year's livestock show at the South Texas State Fair scheduled for March 26 through April 5. Hurricane Ike cancelled last year's fair and pushed the 4-H show to Anahuac. But its back this year and fairgaers can expect a bonus with the spring show. "Our admission to the fair is 8 dollars and on the second Thursday, Friday and Saturday for 8 dollars you can walk into the arena, of course it'll be in the evening time, and see a P.R.C.A rodeo basically for free," says this year's Y.M.B.L. president Heny Gaus. "So I thought for the entertainment dollar that's a big bang that folks will be getting extra." But for now there's plenty of work to be done to get the show on. Some of the worst damage from Hurricane Ike at Ford Park were cieling lights in the livestock pavillion. The wind was blowing the lights back and forth until they fell from the cieling. Gaus says surprisingly, 90 percent of the vendors spots have already been gobbled up.
