Palo Verde/Quartzsite Times - Colorado River Fair opens Thursday.
It's Happy Days at the Colorado River Fair 2009, which will feature a 1950s theme and include performances by the "King" or at least someone who looks like the King. Charlie Franks, "The Arizona Elvis," will perform Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings in the Bommer Theater. According to Fair CEO Greg Sprawls, Franks "The Ultimate Elvis," says he can't wait to come and be involved in the fair. "This guy has been great to work with," Sprawls said. "He loves small town fairs and he said he'll be here Wednesday to have hamburgers with the 4-H and FFA kids. He loves to interact with people and he's going to be great." Sprawls said the Fair is the premier event of the valley that only comes once a year. "This is a chance for many to catch up with a lot of old friends that you may only see once a year," he said. "We have the food, the entertainment, the drama from livestock competitions which ends with the auction on Saturday. To kick off this year's fair, the Fair Board has decided to allow free admission and free parking for everyone who attends the April 2 opening.
