Cathy Kightlinger: Stop by for a fair-ly good lunch | IndyStar.com | The Indianapolis Star.
The draw is a mid-day meal resembling a traditional Sunday dinner (chicken and noodles, meat loaf, roast pork, potatoes, farm-fresh veggies and pie), put on for the people who set up the State Fair's Pioneer Village exhibit, which opens each year during the Indiana State Fair (Aug. 7-23 this year). The hearty lunches are mainly for the workers, but when Lou Gerig of Sease, Gerig & Associates discovered the lunches several years ago, he started bringing big names to the farm table inside Pioneer Village. "I saw wonderful people around the table who enjoyed what they were doing, and I said, 'I'll bet if I can bring some of the right people, these guys can be some of the best fundraisers we have at the Indiana State Fair,' " said Gerig. Farmer and Farm Bureau lobbyist Wayne Dillman prepares the tasty meals. "I think it lets us have a connection with leaders, state leaders and celebrities," said Dillman. "And, I think, it also -- in reverse -- gives them a connection with us down-to-earth, grass-roots people."
