Putnam County Fair Kicks Off - WOWK-TV - WOWKTV.com.
Eleanor -- "It's a county wide program, I mean, we don't have anybody worrying about where they live cause we got 'em all involved. It makes it very worth while," said former fair president Mike Beller. Whether its the food, the rides or just the scenery, every person visiting has their own reason to show up at the Putnam County Fair in Eleanor. "Putnam county has great people and they support us very well. Each year it seems like we advance in numbers," Beller said. As the crowd grows, so does the interest in the dozens of fair attractions. For many, the main draw is the livestock that members of the county 4H program raise. "It teaches 'em a lot about animals, and how to take care of them, feeding them. How to take care of things, and uh treat things with respect," said Joseph Whitman, whose daughter Abby is in 4H. "I have to feed him, and water him, and give him baths," Abby said. And while it's not all fun and games, it's the life lessons that will help these children later in life. "When you really look at it. 4H's core values and things, and the core values of parents who have kids in 4H, it's very special, because they know that they're learning something, it's a learning process," said Beller. The fair runs through Friday and will have everything from tractor pulls to livestock auctions.
