Organizers are billing the 52nd annual Marshall County Fair as the “largest carnival ever to appear” in the county. The fair, presented by Boaz VFW Post No. 6837, starts today and runs through Saturday, opening at 6 p.m. nightly. It is located at the Boaz VFW Fairgrounds on U.S. 431. Admission is $3 per person ages 6 and older. Armbands will cost $18 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and $20 on Friday and Saturday, and allow fairgoers to ride all the rides for the one price. Fairgoers can also buy individual ride tickets. James Gang Amusements, of Andalusia, will operate more than 30 rides on the midway. “It’s going to be a big one,” fair manager Robert Graham said and noted the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries is a sponsor. “I’m excited about the pure size of it. We don’t usually measure up to some of the bigger towns, but we’re essentially doubling the number of rides and exhibits this time.” Officials expect more than 1,500 booths and exhibits at the fair. “We wanted to make it bigger and get people in this area,” Graham said. “Our commercial exhibits are down, but we got good cooperation from schools, churches and home demonstration clubs. “Of course, this is carnival season for the whole state of Alabama. We’ve got five county fairs during the month in north Alabama, and there are 26 county fairs in the state of Alabama.”
