At a brightly colored tent on the edge of the midway, Fred Lally sits and waits, too. He passes the time reading an ancient paperback copy of "War of the Worlds" - the original novel by H.G. Wells that was an enduring classic long before it was appropriated by Steven Spielberg for a Tom Cruise summer blockbuster.
