Published: February 8, 2010If you like to be creative and you’re a fan of the Greene County Fair you might have the opportunity to attend this year’s fair for free – every day!
The Greene County Fair Board is sponsoring a contest open to all Greene County residents, whatever your age, to submit a theme for this year’s fair. With the theme idea, provide an accompanying logo that can be used on fair T-shirts, fair booklets and other material.
“When we took our display to the state fair convention last year everybody had a theme and logo that was consistent,” said fair board member Sharon Lumadue of why the contest was created. “We didn’t have a consistent theme and logo so we decided we’d better jump on the bandwagon.”
Added Sharon’s husband Ed, who is fair board chairman, “In the past our T-shirt design and other materials had nothing to do with our overall theme. We’d like to change that.”
Those wishing to enter should submit their theme/logo entry on 8 ½ by 11 paper to: Greene County Fair, P.O. Box 153, Stanardsville 22973. The deadline is Feb. 25. Each entry must have the name, address and phone number of the participant so the fair board can contact you. The winner will receive two free tickets to the Greene County Fair every day, be recognized in the Greene County Record and will also receive a $50 prize.
Anyone with additional questions should call 985-1021 or e-mail: cnm7367@aol.com .
Last year the fair, scheduled for Aug. 1 through 14 this year, had about 15,600 visitors after breaking a record the previous year with more than 16,000 in attendance.
“This is the biggest thing that happens each year in the county,” said Ed. “A lot of people set up their vacations around the fair dates and people come from out of state.
“It’s a time when some people see other people that they haven’t seen since the fair the previous year.”
The Lumadue’s said the Greene County Fair is known all over the state for its Bluegrass music.
“We have people who have contacts to some of the big-name Bluegrass
