STUART — Two country music concerts and heaps of entertainment highlighting the rural side of the county are on tap for the 51st installment of the Martin County Fair starting Friday at a family-friendly $5 price tag.
Georgia-bred musician Colt Ford will perform Saturday night and country group Love and Theft will take the stage next Thursday headlining the nine-day event.
This year’s fair includes a healthy portion of new activities — added amusement rides, new headlining music acts and a slew of educational agricultural programs. Plenty of time-tested favorites will return, such as the Miss Martin County Pageant, Anastasini Circus, and livestock shows.
Low ticket prices are also coming back for the fair’s 2010 rendition.
After cutting the admission price in half for its 50th anniversary last year, fair organizers were able to keep costs at the gate at $5. Next Tuesday, seniors will get in for $2, and kids’ admission is free Wednesday.
“We tried to keep it within the reach of the public,” said fair executive director Jim Overton. “$5 admission is pretty reasonable. We’re trying to keep the kids and families in mind. You can’t even see a movie for $5 anymore.”
